What Is Brazilian Warrior Workout?

Ola! Tudo Bem? That’s “Hi, how are you?” in Portuguese. My name is Jessica and today we will be working on developing our rhythm, our coordination and our strength with the Brazilian Warrior Workout. In this series, we combine the Afro-Brazilian martial arts, Capoeira, with Maculele, a traditional warrior stick dance and a lot of strength training. Remember to keep your core engaged, have a lot of fun, a smile on your face and we’re going to harness the inner warrior in you.
The Brazilian Warrior Workouts origin is Maculele, a traditional Afro Brazilian stick dance that uses these wooden dowels. They are supposed to be weapons but they are going to be musical instruments today. We follow the rhythm of the atabaque drum which is a traditional Brazilian drum. If you don’t have these dowels at home, don’t worry, you can use some trusty drum sticks or some kitchen utensils or wooden spoons or even just your hands clapping to the rhythm. Remember to keep your knees bent, your core engaged and a smile on your face. If you’re smiling you’re gonna dance better, I guarantee it. Enjoy yourself!
